Have you ever thought about becoming a ghost writer to earn extra money from home? Becoming a ghost writer is one of the most popular ways to earn money from home as a virtual assistant or freelance writer. In this post, we’ll share tips for how to become a ghost writer and excel in your area of writing!

Becoming a ghost writer is one of the most popular ways to earn money from home as a virtual assistant or freelance writer.

1. Pick several areas of interest.
What types of things interest you? You certainly don’t want to be writing about things that don’t interest you, so it’s important to pick areas of interest to write about that are important to you. Do you like writing about fitness? Write about it! Some other popular topics for ghost writers are: finance, budgeting, family life, food/recipes, couponing, health and wellness, and more! Of course these are just a few, so if you have other areas of interest, add those to your list of things to write about!

2. Write original content only.
Don’t pull up anybody else’s content while you’re writing your own. This will encourage you to copy their ideas and words, and you definitely don’t want that! If you’re worried about being too similar to other content, check your work on Copyscape to make sure it’s original, but the best way to do this is just to write your own thoughts and ideas down without looking at anybody else’s for reference.

3. Use a word counter.
Often times as a ghost writer, you’ll have a specific goal for word count. Keep track of your word count in a document using Microsoft Word or use a website like wordcounter.net to stay on track!

4. Keep all avenues open.
When looking for virtual assistant work, keep all of your avenues open. Don’t just look in one area for clients because that will severely limit the amount of work you’ll be able to find. For tips on how to find virtual assistant work, read this article! It’s a great idea to bring on as many clients as you have time for so you have multiple streams of income. That way, if one client decides to drop down the amount of work they need from you, you have something else to rely on for income. In the beginning, test the waters with one or two clients and go from there depending on how much time you have and how efficient you are.

5. Negotiate terms.
It’s important as a virtual assistant or ghost writer to negotiate the terms with your client prior to doing any work. Things that you need to negotiate:

  • How will you get paid?
  • When will you get paid?
  • What is the deadline for your work?
  • Are there any other expectations?

This is a great starting point for becoming a ghost writer and the more experienced you become, the easier it will get. Remember, no client is out of reach! Believe in your skills, apply for everything you feel qualified for, and even things you don’t feel qualified for! The worst that can happen is you don’t get the gig, but the best that can happen is that you DO!

What things would you be interested in writing about as a ghost writer?
